So, it is natural for him to have doubts about the direction of this project. It has quickly gone from building a team capable of winning to finding sustainability.
Someone like Guimaraes will want to win trophies though. And with clubs like Arsenal interested, he has the chance to do that immediately if he takes the opportunity.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are not expected to pursue a move for Guimaraes. There had been suggestions that the Blues were interested in the Brazilian international, but club sources have categorically refuted this.
The outlet understands that Chelsea have not, at any point, enquired about the Newcastle United midfielder and sources maintain they have no plans to.
So, it looks like Chelsea are not actually in the race to sign Guimaraes. To be honest, that is a bit surprising, given that there is uncertainty around the future of Enzo Fernandez.
One would imagine that a complete midfielder like Guimaraes would be perfect for Chelsea, if Fernandez did end up leaving the club. Perhaps this is a sign that the Argentine is set to stay put at Stamford Bridge.
Guimaraes’ Newcastle United exit still on the cards
Of course, this does not mean that Newcastle United are not going to see Guimaraes leave this summer. That is still very much on the cards.
Arsenal seem to be keen, with Mikel Arteta believed to be a big fan. Personal terms have already been agreed. And it is just an agreement between the two clubs that remains.
There is a real possibility that it will be found eventually. Of course, Guimaraes’ leaving would not be ideal for the Magpies. This is a team that finished 12th last season and has lost so much quality since then. So, where could they finish this time around? It is cause for worry.
At the same time, if Guimaraes does end up leaving, Chelsea not being interested is another worrying sign. More interest would have helped drive up the transfer price.
