‘Ready to start talks’ – Newcastle United preparing move for 25-year-old midfielder

Newcastle United need urgent reinforcements in the middle of the park. The club have lost a ton of quality and experience already in midfield following the departure of Sandro Tonali. Unfortunately, that might just be the beginning of it.

That is because Bruno Guimaraes now seems to be inching towards the exit door as well. Arsenal have agreed personal terms with him already. And talks seem to be finally underway between the two clubs if reports are on the mark.

On the other hand, Joe Willock could be headed for the exit door as well. He was also expected to leave in this window and Turkey has emerged as the leading destination for the midfielder.

Now, Newcastle United have already brought in options in the middle of the park. But the one complaint many have had is that they do not have enough experience or proven quality. The Magpies might be about to change that soon.

Newcastle United ready to start talks to sign midfielder

Newcastle United have signed Sean Steurn from Ajax this summer. He is 18 years of age and has made 25 appearances at the senior level so far.

They are also on the verge of announcing a deal for Aladji Bamba. The contract is believed to have been signed already. But just like Steur, he has only played 25 senior games so far. The French defensive midfielder is 20 years old.

So, one cannot overlook the need for experience and know-how in this squad. And finally, it appears that the Magpies have taken note and are making a move for someone who is proven at both club and international level.

According to Pedro Almeida, Newcastle United are ready to start talks with Botafogo for Danilo, after good progressing in talks with Arsenal for Guimaraes.

Is Danilo good enough to replace Guimaraes?

That update would suggest that Newcastle United are viewing Danilo as a replacement for Guimaraes. But is he at that required level yet?

The one positive is that he already has experience of Premier League football, having spent a couple of years at Nottingham Forest. So, the English game won’t come as any surprise to him and the adjustment period should not be long.

Also, Danilo seems to have improved as a player since that spell. He has been one of the best in the Brazilian Serie A and was featured in the World Cup for Brazil.

That being said, if you ask me if Danilo is capable of coming in and immediately replacing Guimaraes, I don’t think so. Yes, he can prove to be a decent signing for sure, but overall, the squad would be weakened if these two moves took place.
