Newcastle United tipped to sign £60m Manchester United player

Newcastle United need to add some quality to there midfielder as soon as possible. Sandro Tonali has already joined Tottenham Hotspur in a £100 million transfer move. And that might not be the end of it.

Bruno Guimaraes’ exit also seems pretty likely. He has already agreed terms with Arsenal. And now, Chelsea’s name is also coming up consistently as a potential destination for the player.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Guimaraes. On the other hand, Newcastle United have already failed once in their quest to strengthen the midfield.

They tried to sign Johan Manzambi and even had agreed a deal with SC Freiburg for the Swiss World Cup standout. But it simply did not work out as he was more interested in joining Aston Villa, who had Champions League football on offer. So, the Magpies need to target someone else. Could it be a Manchester United midfielder?

Manchester United have a lot of options in the middle of the park and have only increased them this summer with the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

It is believed that they could be looking to sign another midfielder in this window. Of course, that has raised question marks around the future of their current ones as a result. Someone like Mason Mount falls under that category.

As reported by Chronicle Live, Rene Meulensteen has suggested that Mount joining Newcastle United could be a good move:

“Mason Mount to Newcastle could be a good move because If Mount stays, he would only be a bit-part player.

“Even if he stays at Manchester United and stays fit, it is hard to see Michael Carrick not starting Matheus Cunha or Bryan Mbeumo. You need a squad for many games, so he would get picked at some point.

“Mason Mount is at a point in his career where he wants to play as much as possible. If he leaves, United would need to find backup for the left side.”

Mason Mount would be a good signing if he can rediscover his form

It feels like a lifetime ago but at one point in time, Mount was one of the brightest talents in English football. He was in the same conversation as Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden.

In fact, for a while, he was ahead. At Chelsea, he proved himself as a midfielder who could genuinely produce 10-plus goals and 10-plus assists in a season.

He also played an integral part in their Champions League-winning campaign under Thomas Tuchel. He provided the vital assist to Kai Havertz in the final and was the club’s player of the season that time around.

Unfortunately, injuries have taken their toll over the last few years. We have never seen him at his best in a Manchester United shirt since his £60 million move from Chelsea.

A change of scenery might not be a bad idea. And perhaps it is an idea worth considering for Newcastle United, if he is available for a reasonable transfer fee.
