Sky Sports reveal what Newcastle United have told Arsenal about Bruno Guimaraes transfer

Arsenal want to sign Bruno Guimaraes. And from all that we have learned so far, it looks like the Brazilian midfielder wants to go there as well. The stumbling block might be reaching an agreement with Newcastle United.

Newcastle United finished 10th in the Premier League last season. This summer should have been about strengthening the squad. Instead, it has been spent seeing their best players leave.

Anthony Gordon has joined Barcelona. Sandro Tonali has moved to Tottenham Hotspur. Now, could club captain Guimaraes head to Arsenal?

If Guimaraes does indeed end up leaving. Newcastle United will need to find a replacement. That could take time. That is not a profile readily available, especially for a transfer fee the Magpies might be comfortable paying. And it looks like the club have now reached out to Arsenal regarding the matter.

What Newcastle United have told Arsenal about Guimaraes situation

According to Sky Sports, Keith Downie said regarding the situation involving Newcastle United, Guimaraes and Arsenal:

“As I understand it, Newcastle have actually reached out to Arsenal and said, ‘Look, are you serious about this? Are you trying to sign this player because we’ve had nothing from you?’

“It’s all playing out with agents and I think it’s frustrating for Newcastle because without doubt it’s unsettling the player, hence why he has said he would like to explore his options elsewhere.”

That would suggest that Newcastle United are not completely closed to the idea of parting with the midfielder this summer but want some clarification on Arsenal’s level of interest in signing Guimaraes.

Of course, some fans might not be happy with that. That being said, one can also see why the Magpies need to stay open to all possibilities.

When players want to leave, it is very difficult to keep them around. So, they need to have a clear idea of what both Arsenal and Guimaraes are thinking, and then coming up with their own plan of action.

Chelsea could be another possible destination for Guimaraes

It is believed that Newcastle United would want a transfer fee in the region of £80 million to part ways with Guimaraes. That is a steep figure for someone who is going to be turning 29 soon.

At the same time, he is one of the most complete midfielders in world football today. So, why would not Newcastle United want as much as possible out of his exit?

Interestingly, Arsenal might not be the only club trying to sign Guimaraes. The Brazilian’s name has been doing the rounds of the Chelsea rumour mill over the past few days as well.

Chelsea recently managed to sign Morgan Rogers ahead of Arsenal. Could they do the same with Guimaraes as well? It could help the club drive up the transfer fee, that is for sure.
