Chelsea suddenly linked with elite Newcastle United player

At this moment, it feels like pretty much everybody is just being linked with a move away from Newcastle United. We have seen plenty of top talent depart this summer already.

There is also constant speculation about others. For example. Bruno Guimaraes is believed to have agreed personal terms with Arsenal and is thought to be keen on a move to the Premier League champions.

So far, no deal has been agreed. It is even unclear how much contact, if any, has taken place between the two clubs as of now. But before this entire saga can unfold, it looks like another team are now in the race to sign Guimaraes.

Speculation has suddenly grown on social media that Chelsea are another club keeping an eye on Guimaraes and want to sign him in midfield.

Chelsea suddenly linked with move for Guimaraes

It is no secret that Chelsea are looking to add an option in the middle of the park. Alex Scott of Bournemouth and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace have been consistently linked with the Blues.

In many ways, that would be a BlueCo signing, bringing in youngsters, even though they have a bit of Premier League experience under their belt.

On the other hand, signing Guimaraes would be a move away from the norm. The Brazilian midfielder is 28 years of age. He is proven at both club and international level.

That is not the kind of signing you would associate with this new Chelsea. But it could very well prove to be the kind of move they need to make under Xabi Alonso.

Could Chelsea really sign Newcastle United player ahead of Arsenal?

Is there any substance to these rumours? Or are they just a result of Chelsea signing Morgan Rogers ahead of Arsenal and the rumour mill now trying to put two and two together for a second time?

One thing is clear though, if Chelsea wants, they can still hijack a signing Arsenal are trying to make. Could they actually do it for the second time this summer with Guimaraes?

Or, and let us not count this out, could it be a strategy to put some pressure on Arsenal so that they pick up the pace in this Guimaraes transfer saga?

Whatever may be the case, the speculation around a Guimaraes exit is starting to grow. And when the situation gets like this, rarely do Newcastle United keep the player.

We have seen it happen with Alexander Isak last summer, as well as Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this time around. So, it would not come as any surprise if Guimaraes joined that list.
