News of Shearer entering Premier League Hall of Fame goes viral

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer was inducted in the Premier League Hall of Fame and news of his inclusion has now gone viral on social media. The 50-year-old is the league’s all-time top goalscorer (260 goals) and won a title with Blackburn Rovers, so he’s a deserving first inductee.

Newcastle unsurprisingly showered Shearer in praise on Twitter, offering their congratulations to the club legend and posting a gallery of him holding the inaugural award. The former England international was hailed by other Premier League legends too.

Ian Wright, who played alongside Shearer for England and worked with him on BBC’s Match of the Day, praised his friend on Twitter. Former United manager Rafa Benitez hailed the Geordie striker too. Sergio Aguero also credited both Shearer and Henry on Twitter – two players he’s strived to emulate in terms of goals.

England’s official twitter account also gave praise to the player that scored 30 goals in 63 games and led the Three Lions to the semi-finals of the 1996 European Championships, finishing third in the tournament.

There will be plenty of videos going viral of Shearer’s goals for club and country on social media, so fans should enjoy their Monday.
