Simon Jordan admits telling Steve Bruce to leave Newcastle

Steve Bruce is enduring a difficult time at Newcastle. His side are 19th in the Premier League and without a win in their first four games. No club have conceded more goals than the Magpies too, so fans are understandably upset about the direction United are going in.

Bruce took charge of Newcastle in 2019 and hasn’t managed better than 13th and 12th in the table, amassing 45 points or less. As things stand, this season could end up being Newcastle’s worse since their 2016 relegation, so many want Bruce out of the club.

Simon Jordan admitted on talkSPORT that he’s told the 60-year-old to his face that he should leave Newcastle for the sake of his dignity, as they’ll never have success under the current ownership. He said: “A lot of Newcastle supporters don’t like Steve Bruce – they don’t rate his record.

“I happen to rate Steve Bruce, I think he’s a decent football manager. I think he should leave Newcastle, I don’t think he can ever turn this around, I don’t think he’s ever going to right this. I think he should quit? Oh, absolutely, and I’ve told him unequivocally.”

Bruce is a highly experienced manager who’s mostly taken charge of clubs in the top two tiers of English football – he’s managed Sheffield United (1998 – 1999), Huddersfield Town (1999 – 2000), Wigan Athletic (2001) (2007 – 2009), Crystal Palace (2001), Birmingham City (2001 – 2007), Sunderland (2009 – 2011), Hull City (2012 – 2016), Aston Villa (2016 – 2018), Sheffield Wednesday (2019) and Newcastle (2019 – present).

If Newcastle can’t get themselves out of the drop zone, Bruce will likely get the sack. Jordan has blamed Mike Ashley’s lack of spending as an issue, which is why he believes Bruce should jump before being pushed, but the 60-year-old is defiant.
