Lewis Miley set for Newcastle training return after injury scare

Lewis Miley is expected to be available for Newcastle United’s trip to Coventry City after reportedly receiving clearance to resume full training.

The Northern Echo’s Scott Wilson, reporting via Yahoo Sports, says Newcastle’s medical staff have approved the midfielder’s return following a short period of rest.

Miley suffered a knock while training with England Under-21s at St George’s Park. The report describes his early return to Tyneside as a precaution.

The 20-year-old’s withdrawal from England duty was confirmed last Thursday, leaving Newcastle waiting for a clearer picture of his recovery.

He had been an unused substitute against Kazakhstan before leaving Lee Carsley’s squad ahead of the remaining qualifiers against Slovakia and the Republic of Ireland.

Will Lewis Miley be available against Coventry?

The latest report puts Miley on course to be available when Newcastle visit Coventry on Monday 12 October, with kick-off at 8pm BST.

Clearance to train is an encouraging step, although the report does not establish that he has already completed a full session or guarantee a starting place.

For Matthias Jaissle, the immediate benefit would be having Miley available through the build-up to Newcastle’s first match after the international break.

That would allow the head coach to assess him before making his selection, rather than preparing without a clear indication of when he could return.
