Newcastle United suffered another disappointing defeat as Thierno Barry scored for the second time in five days to give Everton a 1-0 win at St James’ Park in the Premier League.

The Magpies have struggled for consistent results this season, with their back to back losses to Everton putting even more pressure on Matthias Jaissle. Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher has now admitted he is concerned about Newcastle’s current situation.

“I fear a little for Newcastle,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“They have a young manager and young players. You are always going to question the manager when the team is not winning.

“It is going to be a tough season. At home, especially, it feels flat and boring, and I never expected to say that about Jaissle’s Newcastle. You expected it to be front-footed and exciting, coming from the Red Bull model.”

Carragher raises concerns over Newcastle’s form

Newcastle are in the bottom half of the table, with 11 points from nine games.

The defeat leaves Newcastle United 13th in the Premier League table and extends their difficult run to four defeats in their last five matches across all competitions.

The Magpies have also struggled at home, winning just one of their five Premier League matches at St James’ Park this season. They are also yet to keep a clean sheet on home soil in the league.

Carragher believes the combination of a young manager and inexperienced players could make the situation difficult for Newcastle, particularly with supporters expecting more from the team.

Jaissle calls for unity after Everton defeat

Despite the growing concerns, Jaissle has insisted he is not worried about Newcastle’s situation but accepts that his side need to improve quickly.

Asked if he was worried about the current situation, the Newcastle boss said:

“I’m not worried but we are all aware that we need to make now a fast learning curve in the right direction.

“The only way now is togetherness, showing unity and then belief comes because we know we can count, believe in our team-mates and the staff and as a unit you can overcome that challenge.”

Matthias Jaissle will face Fulham next in the Premier League. He will be hoping for a quick return to winning ways and deliver better performances.
