Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle has warned his players to avoid individual mistakes as they look to return to winning ways against Everton on Monday night.

Newcastle United failed to build on Sunday’s win over Crystal Palace as they suffered a 3-1 defeat against Everton in the Carabao Cup on Thursday. The defeat ended any realistic chance of silverware this season for The Magpies.

The result points out to another worrying stat for Matthias Jaissle. Newcastle have won just two of their last six matches in all competitions. Amid the worrying results, the defence is leaking goals as well as they have conceded 13 goals during that run.

Matthias Jaissle has now called on his players to show greater maturity and improve their defensive record ahead of another meeting with Everton on Monday night.

Matthias Jaissle wants Newcastle to cut out individual mistakes

The Newcastle boss believes his side are making life too easy for their opponents by making avoidable mistakes.

“First of all it is something where we need to work on, that we are not conceding so many goals,” Jaissle said, as quoted by the BBC.

“We need to just avoid these individual mistakes especially where the opposition is not that dominant on the pitch. We need to improve for the next match on Monday.”

The 3-1 defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium was another example of Newcastle failing to deal with important moments in their own box.

Newcastle must become more clinical in attack

The German manager also wants to see his side show improved form infront of the goal. Newcastle had 28 shots against Everton but only managed to score once through Dan Burn. That only tells you why Jaissle wants his side to be more ruthless upfront.

“It is something what I mentioned about being mature and more clinical and not giving almost a gift for the opposition to score, it feels the opposition is not giving us these gifts,” explained Jaissle.

“When it comes to scoring goals, we need to be more efficient out of so many occasions. How often we enter the box of Everton, there needs to be more than only one goal.”

Newcastle now have another opportunity to respond against Everton on Monday, but Jaissle will be looking for improvements at both ends of the pitch.
