The English midfielder has since established himself as a regular under Jaissle, starting nine of Newcastle’s opening 11 matches in all competitions.

Besiktas are preparing a fresh move for Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock ahead of the January transfer window, with the Turkish club ready to make an offer worth £8.5m.

Besiktas previously tried to sign Joe Willock with an €18 million offer, but the move eventually collapsed after Matthias Jaissle took charge at St James’ Park and decided to keep the midfielder.

The midfielder’s contract expires in June 2027, leaving Newcastle with an important decision before he can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a club outside England in January.

Besiktas president confirms interest in Newcastle midfielder

Besiktas president Serdal Adali has also publicly addressed his club’s pursuit of Willock, revealing the efforts made to convince the midfielder to move to Istanbul during the summer.

“There were players we couldn’t sign in the summer. Our manager wanted Willock. From day one, it was Willock, Willock. Nobody knows this, but I brought Willock’s whole family to Istanbul,” Serdal Adali said.

“They picked out a house, and they had video calls with Italiano and Onder [Ozen, Besiktas director of football] at least ten times. Furthermore, we went to see the player in person twice. His contract ends at the end of the season. He can sign a pre-contract in the winter.

“They had asked for £20 million. We can sign him in January – in fact, I will sign him. The only player the manager wanted that we missed out on was Joe Willock. We genuinely need someone there.”

Adali later reiterated his intention to return for the midfielder during the mid-season window.

“I remain insistent on Willock. I will go and speak with Newcastle again during the mid-season window. If it works out, he is the target.”
