Newcastle United tipped to sign 25-year-old elite midfielder over Hojbjerg

Over the last two days, there has been a lot of talk about Newcastle United’s interest in former Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Magpies have seen Bruno Guimaraes leave for Arsenal and will need to find a replacement.

Of course, it is not just Guimaraes’ quality they need to replace but his leadership as well. He was the club captain before his move to Arsenal. So, they need that leader in the middle of the park. 18-year-old Sean Steur or 20-year-old Aladji Bamba are not going to fill those boots immediately.

So, it is easy to understand why someone like Hojbjerg might intrigue Newcastle United. He has Premier League experience and is captain of both his club and international team right now.

A £13 million bid might be enough to convince Marseille to part ways with Hojbjerg. But Newcastle United have been told to show a bit more ambition and sign someone who will have upside for years to come.

Newcastle United tipped to sign Angelo Stiller over Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

A report from GIVEMESPORT has tipped Newcastle United to give priority to a move for Angelo Stiller over Hojbjerg in this summer transfer window.

Of course, Stiller has been linked with a move to Newcastle United for several weeks now. But so far, nothing has materialised in that regard.

When it comes to long-term upside, there is no doubt that Stiller would be the better signing. He is 25 years of age and is only entering his prime, while someone like Hojbjerg is leaving it behind or close to doing so.

It would take a bit more investment on the part of Newcastle United to secure the signing of Hojbjerg. A transfer fee north of £35 million has been touted as the required figure. But in the long run, that might be a bargain.

Why Stiller would be a good signing for Newcastle United

Stiller has earned comparisons with legendary German midfielder Toni Kroos for his style of play. He is also someone who can dictate the tempo of a game from deep.

Of course, Stiller is not someone who is going to score a ton of goals. That is not his strength or his role in the team. But he is the type of player who makes those around him better.

He is not a liability defensively either. In fact, he makes more defensive contributions per 90 minutes that Hojbjerg, although the general thought might be the opposite.

Even then, there are a lot of upsides to signing someone like Hojbjerg at this point in time as well. And let us not forget that the likes of Joelinton and Joe Willock could be heading for the exit door this summer as well. So, Newcastle United will need to sign more than one midfielder.
