Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle is likely to keep changes to a minimum ahead of their Carabao Cup fourth-round clash against Everton.
The Magpies go into the game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. They are hoping to reach the quarter finals for the fifth year in a row. They’ll be backed by a loud travelling contingent of fans, with 7,700 Newcastle fans set to travel to Merseyside.
Jaissle has made it clear that he wants the best possible line-up against Newcastle. They’ll be trying to keep up their impressive recent run in the competition.
“I have the same approach to play with the best possible line-up,” the German manager told reporters.
He also praised the travelling support and confirmed Newcastle would go “all in” for the cup tie.
Newcastle United boosted by Crystal Palace victory
Newcastle go into their Carabao Cup clash on Thursday. This follows a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday.
The win ended a two-game losing streak and gives Jaissle’s side a confidence boost ahead of a busy period of fixtures.
While it is unlikely the manager will make any major changes. Newcastle will want to strike a balance between their cup ambitions and a second clash with Everton at St James’ Park on Monday night.
But with Jaissle’s comments, it seems that the Carabao Cup is still an important target for Newcastle.
The club have made it to the quarter-finals in the last four seasons. They will want to continue this trend against David Moyes’ side.
Lukas Hornicek expected to start in goal
Lukas Hornicek is predicted to retain his place between the posts for Newcastle against Everton.
Although Ewen Jaouen’s fitness might have played a part, the current evidence suggests that it will be Hornicek who starts. Nick Pope is unlikely to play.
Amar Dedic is also expected to start at right back despite injury concerns in recent weeks. Newcastle have very few obvious options with Lewis Miley a doubt and Tino Livramento injured.
This could mean there is little room for Jaissle to rotate his defence ahead of another Premier League clash against Everton.
Fabian Schar and Dan Burn set to continue
Fabian Schar is expected to play alongside Dan Burn in the centre of defence after looking more cohesive as a duo.
Maintaining that defensive duo would provide some consistency for the Magpies. They’ll be looking to push forward in this fixture.
The decisions made by Jaissle will be interesting to see as they look to make it through to another Carabao Cup quarter-final.
The manager has stressed how important the game is to them and how much support they will get from the away fans. This suggests they will go into the game with a strong starting XI.
Newcastle have to convert their intentions into a result against Everton as they look to make the last eight and face them again in a few days.
