One issue that Newcastle United have faced time and again this summer is not being able to convince players to join the club over others. We saw that with Victor Munoz, as he moved to Liverpool. That was repeated in the Johan Manzambi saga, when a deal was agreed with SC Freiburg but the Swiss midfielder chose Aston Villa instead.
So, Newcastle United will know the importance of players wanting to join them quite well. And fortunately, it looks like a winger is eager on a move to St James’ Park.
Obviously, most of the talk in recent days has been about midfield signings. The club have lost the most in the middle of the park. Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes have both left. Joelinton and Joe Willock could follow suit.
So, it is understandable for midfield to be the priority. But there are other positions where they need to strengthen as well. The flanks might be one such area, with Anthony Gordon leaving on top of prior needs.
Winger wants to join Newcastle United
Fortunately, it looks like a priority winger is giving his priority to a potential move to Newcastle United in this summer transfer window.
According to DZ Foot, Anis Hadj Moussa is keen on the move to Newcastle United. An excerpt from the report reads:
The 24-year-old winger has reportedly already made his decision regarding his future: “I only want Newcastle.” He has thus apparently ruled out offers from Saudi Arabia, despite substantial financial incentives, as well as interest from Portugal. After interest from Benfica and Sporting CP, his primary objective is now to experience the Premier League.
In the same report, it has been suggested that the Magpies would be ready to pay around £35 million to sign Moussa. That is not far off from what Feyenoord would want to part ways with him this summer.
Would Moussa be a good signing?
Moussa has proven that he can make an impact going forward. He scored 14 goals and provided seven assists across all competitions last season.
Newcastle United could definitely do with that kind of output from a winger. Truth be told, their strikers are struggling to produce at that rate.
Obviously, there is a clear difference between the Eredivisie and the Premier League. So, if the Magpies do end up signing Moussa, it would be interesting to see if it would translate to the English top flight. That risk is there whenever you sign a player from outside.
