Newcastle United fans have been waiting for the club to make some more moves in the summer transfer window. The club’s first three signings of the summer were Bazoumana Toure, Ewen Jaouen and Sean Steur.
The transfer strategy is pretty clear from that alone. Newcastle United’s rebuild is going to revolve around signing youngsters rather than paying premium fees to bring in ready-made players.
Will that work? Time shall tell. Chelsea have tried something similar under BlueCo and it has not brought the desired results. Perhaps the story will be different with the Magpies, if they get the recruitment right.
They have now signed a highly-rated striker as well. The reports have been doing the rounds for a little while and now an official announcement has been made.
Newcastle United announce signing of striker
Newcastle United have officially confirmed that they have completed the signing of Guinea-Bissau forward Afner Ca. The 19-year-old has joined the club’s Academy following the expiry of his contract with La Liga side Levante.
Ca will be going into the academy with the aim of breaking into the senior team at some point in the future. So, this is not the type of signing that is expected to have an impact on Eddie Howe’s plans, at least for the time being.
The signing of Ca is an interesting one for sure, because he is not coming off an incredible campaign at youth level. He managed four goals for Levante U19s.
Ca’s best football came for Amora FC in Portugal. He even played senior football for them after scoring 13 goals in 31 appearances.
Newcastle United need a quality striker signing
It remains to be seen how Ca’s development goes. We can only wish him the best. That being said, the Magpies do need a lot more in terms of reinforcements up top.
They need someone who can come straight into the starting XI for the Magpies. They simply have not replaced Alexander Isak after he left for Liverpool last summer.
Nick Woltemade was supposed to be his replacement but faded away after a good start. By the end of the season, he was not even playing as a striker a lot of the time. On the other hand, Yoane Wissa managed to score just three times all season.
So, it will be very interesting to see if Newcastle United end up signing a proven striker this summer. So far, there does not seem to be anything concrete with the focus on other positions.
