Newcastle United make contact to sign Chelsea centre-back

Newcastle United will be aiming to bring in reinforcements in several positions across the pitch. One of them is the heart of their defence.

Newcastle United have an ageing centre-back department right now. So, they will need to freshen things up there. And it looks like they have turned their attention towards the Chelsea squad.

Chelsea have a lot of centre-backs right now. But it is believed that they are looking to sign one or two more this summer, while parting ways with a few as well.

That could open up the window of opportunity for Newcastle United to swoop in and get their man. And it looks like the club have already started off with initial contacts over a move.

Newcastle United make contact for Chelsea centre-back

According to Nicolo Schira, Napoli and Newcastle United have asked info for Chelsea’s centre-back Benoit Badiashile, who is not in their plans. He is ready to leave this summer.

On his day, Badiashile can be a solid centre-back in the Premier League. One such performance from the Frenchman came against Liverpool last season, as he was phenomenal on that night.

It is the consistency that has been missing from his game. If Badiashile can remain fit and perform at a consistent level, he would be a starter for most teams in the Premier League.

It will be very interesting to see what kind of transfer fee Chelsea would be looking for in order to part ways with Badiashile. But considering the fact that he is still just 25 years of age, one would imagine that the Blues will look to recoup as much of the £32.7 million they paid to sign him from AS Monaco as possible.

Would Badiashile be the right signing for Newcastle?

To be very honest, it is almost impossible to predict how things will go for some of these Chelsea players. It is safe to say that they have not met expectations at Stamford Bridge.

But then again, you have to take into consideration the lack of stability at the club over the past four seasons. We have seen their players leave for elsewhere and do well.

One great example of that would be Badiashile’s French and Chelsea teammate, Axel Disasi. He went on loan to West Ham and was solid for the Hammers.

So, it is very possible that Badiashile could end up enjoying some success as well, if he leaves Chelsea this summer in search of more playing time and hopefully success.
