It is no secret that Newcastle United need to strengthen their midfield this summer. Sandro Tonali’s departure has weakened that department significantly. On top of that, there is still a ton of uncertainty around the future of Bruno Guimaraes, who is believed to have agreed personal terms with Arsenal.
A move for Arsenal might have become even more likely after news broke today that Chelsea had agreed a deal to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.
At the same time, Aston Villa handed a transfer blow to Newcastle United. They swooped in and signed Johan Manzambi from SC Freiburg after the Magpies had agreed a deal with the German club to sign the Swiss World Cup standout.
As a result, Newcastle United have had to turn their attention elsewhere. And it looks like another bid might not be a million miles away from being made.
Newcastle United expected to make another bid soon
According to Fabio Gatto, Newcastle United can soon return for Lucas Bergvall. Tottenham Hotspur rejected the first proposal, but the gap between the parties is not considered insurmountable.
In the next 24-72 hours, a new attempt to sign Bergvall by Newcastle United is expected, through an improved formula rather than with an outsized bid.
Newcastle United’s first bid to sign Bergvall, which has been rejected by Tottenham Hotspur, was thought to be in the region of £46 million.
It remains to be seen how far the club are willing to go to sign the 20-year-old from Tottenham Hotspur. The Magpies are working under some financial constraints this summer.
Would Bergvall be a good signing for Newcastle?
It is very clear that Newcastle United are looking at signing youngsters this summer. They don’t seem keen to pay premium fees to bring in ready-made players.
It is not hard to understand why, when you look at some of the transfer fees being demanded and paid. So far, it is unclear what it would take to sign Bergvall. But it looks like it is not significantly more than what the Magpies already offered.
Bergvall might be just 20 years of age, but he has a decent bit of experience under his belt. So, Newcastle United would be getting a Premier League-proven talent and a youngster at one and the same time.
This deal is starting to seem like something that could be possible to pull off. Especially as it looks like Bergvall himself is keen on a move away.
