Newcastle United have focused this summer on signing youngsters even as proven quality and experience has exited the club left, right and centre. They have brought in Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim, Ewen Jaouen from Reims and Sean Steur from Ajax.
The oldest of that trio is merely 20 years of age. So, it is safe to say that the Magpies are not putting a lot of weight on experience when it comes to picking their transfer targets this summer.
They have repeated that for the fourth time now. A five-year deal has been agreed with a 19-year-old striker, a move that has come pretty much out of nowhere.
Newcastle United agree deal to sign 19-year-old striker
According to a report from Chronicle Live, Newcastle United have signed Afner Ca from Levante. He joins the Premier League club on a five-year deal.
He is not being viewed as someone who will come in and immediately make an impact on the senior team though. The 19-year-old striker has been described as an academy signing.
Ca is 6 feet 4 inches tall and will bring a physical presence up top. Interestingly, even with that stature, he is capable of playing on the right flank as a winger.
Ca was a man in demand as well. Newcastle United have won the race to sign the highly-rated youngster ahead of clubs like Villarreal and Valencia.
Is Ca going to be a good signing for Newcastle in the long run?
Of course, not a ton is known about Ca as a player. So, we will just have to wait and watch how he performs at the youth levels for Newcastle United.
If he does well, then he might end up having a future in the senior team for the Magpies. If he does not, then he will be loaned out at some point in hopes of developing his game or allowed to leave altogether.
No matter which way you look at it though, this is a low-risk move on the part of Newcastle United. And you can expect more of these over the coming weeks.
That being said, the club will have to do a lot better if they want to strengthen the club’s ranks at the senior level, which always needs to be the main focus, even though one cannot lose sight of the youth team.
