Newcastle United close to signing defender from West Ham United

Newcastle United have a lot of work to do in this summer transfer window. On one hand, there has to be recognition that this squad needs to be improved. But on the other hand, it is not going to be easy to pull off.

The club have been linked with a few players lately. Names like Lamine Camara, James Trafford, Johan Manzambi, Felix Nmecha and a few others have been doing the rounds in recent weeks.

It will be interesting to see if the Magpies are successful in making any of those additions to the squad. There is no doubt that quite a few of them would raise the level immediately.

At the same time though, the club cannot afford to pass up on good long-term opportunities just because they are focused on the here and now. Thankfully, it looks like they are not going to either, as they seem to be on the verge of signing a right-back from West Ham United who might be relevant to the first-team picture for the next few years at the very least.

West Ham United right-back close to joining Newcastle United

West Ham United got relegated from the Premier League last season. It went right down to the wire but ultimately, Tottenham Hotspur prevailed and their London rivals went down on the final day of the campaign.

That does mean that there is an opportunity to bring in some quality players from West Ham United. Many might be seeking to leave, now that they are in the Championship.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are closing in on West Ham United’s Kyle Healy-Matthews. The youngster arrived at St James’ Park for talks yesterday. The transfer IS now going through all the usual formalities.

It is expected to be a couple of weeks before it becomes official. Healy-Matthews is still just 16 years of age. So, he will be joining as a scholar and is expected to be handed his first professional deal when he does turn 17.

Who is Kyle Healy-Matthews, Newcastle United’s next signing?

Kyle Healy-Matthews is 16 years of age and he is a right-back. He has represented West Ham United in the U18 Premier League on six occasions already.

That goes to show that he is highly regarded at the London club. But now, a move to St James’ Park seems to be on the horizon for the young right-back.

Newcastle United recently released a young right-back from the academy in the form of Ezra Tika-Lemba. So, Healy-Matthews could be his replacement.

This just goes to show that the Magpies are still taking care of all aspects of the football club and not just completely focusing on the senior team. That is a good sign for the long-term future of Newcastle United.
