It is no secret that Newcastle United could do with another striker. Alexander Isak left the club last summer. It goes without saying that he was the Magpies’ talisman.
The club ended up replacing Isak with Nick Woltemade. To be fair, the German international did score a bunch of goals early on. But soon enough, he would lose his form and was even played out of position a lot of the time later on in the campaign.
Then there is Anthony Gordon. He has completed a big money switch to Newcastle United and is another forward that the Magpies will need to replace.
Falorin Balogun of AS Monaco is someone Newcastle United have been linked with in recent times. And it looks like there is some positive news for them in that regard.
Newcastle United handed Falorin Balogun boost by David Ornstein
According to transfer expert David Ornstein, Balogun is expected to leave AS Monaco this summer. He has a contract until 2028 but there are no talks over a new deal. The striker favours a move.
There is interest from the Premier League as well as Europe. And it is believed that AS Monaco would look for around €50 million to part ways with Balogun.
Balogun is currently catching the eye with his performances at the World Cup. He scored a brace in the USA’s win in their first group game. Then, he followed it up with an assist in the second match.
His form at club level has been pretty good as well. In the previous campaign, he scored 19 goals and provided five assists in 43 games for AS Monaco.
Is Balogun the right signing for Newcastle?
Of course, Balogun already has experience of English football, having spent time at Arsenal. So, it is not hard to see why he might have caught the eye of Newcastle United.
Now, it remains to be seen if Newcastle United end up making a move for him or not. Obviously, €50 million is a significant transfer fee. So, it might not be simple.
It is also worth mentioning that Balogun is not the only AS Monaco player the Magpies have been linked with recently. Another one is Lamine Camara.
Camara is also away at the World Cup right now, representing Senegal. Of course, if signed, he would be a potential replacement for Sandro Tonali, who looks to be a likely candidate to leave.
