Man Utd officially announce signing of former Newcastle United player

Of course, the focus of Newcastle United fans will be on how the club go about strengthening their squad in this summer transfer window. So far, it has been a difficult one for the Magpies, and in more ways than one.

Firstly, we have witnessed two of their best players leave. Sandro Tonali will be turning out for Tottenham Hotspur next season. Anthony Gordon is a Barcelona player.

On the other hand, Newcastle United’s attempts to fill those voids have met with obstacles as well. It looked like they were going to sign Victor Munoz, only for Liverpool to swoop in at the last minute and get a deal done. A fee had been agreed with SC Freiburg to bring in Johan Manzambi, Switzerland’s World Cup standout, only for him to choose Aston Villa instead.

Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur and Ewen Jaouen are the three new signings that have been made so far in this summer window. It remains to be seen who else joins that list over the coming weeks. On the other hand, Manchester United have managed to sign one of Newcastle’s former players.

Manchester United sign former Newcastle goalkeeper

Newcastle United will be looking to shuffle their goalkeeping ranks this summer. But they are not the only ones. Man Utd have done the same.

Manchester United have now officially announced the arrival of Karl Darlow. The goalkeeper had previously spent nine years on the books at Newcastle.

Darlow did end up leaving Newcastle in the summer of 2023. He would spend the next three years playing for Leeds United and was playing Premier League football for them even last season.

Now, at 35 years of age, he has gotten himself a move to Manchester United. It is very obvious that he won’t be vying for the first-team spot and is only going to be a backup goalkeeper for the club.

Newcastle United need to sign a goalkeeper of their own

Of course, Newcastle United have already signed one goalkeeper this summer. Jaouen has been brought in from Reims. But there are doubts about whether he is good enough to be a starter for the club.

At the same time, there is an expectation that Nick Pope will leave in this summer transfer window. He is 34 years of age and in the final year of his contract.

Newcastle United will need to bring in a goalkeeper who is capable of coming in and immediately starting. So, Darlow would never have been an option. Zion Suzuki is someone they have been linked with quite heavily lately.

Suzuki currently plays for Parma in Italy and was a standout for Japan at the World Cup. He is also drawing interest from PSG, so if Newcastle United want to sign him, they might need to move quick.
