Newcastle United confirmed on Tuesday that the club had splurged to buy the land on Leazes Terrace and a further £30 million of investment has been announced on Wednesday.

There is still one fixture left to play in the Premier League season, with Eddie Howe taking his side down to Fulham on Sunday afternoon. However, with little to play for, attention has already turned to off-the-pitch matters.

It’s been a somewhat stagnant season on Tyneside and Newcastle supporters are ready for change. Some had called for the departure of Eddie Howe, but the Saudi Public Investment Fund are expected to stand by the manager, and focus on improving the wider areas of the club.

Newcastle United to spend £30m on St James’ Park and training ground

In a video shared on social media today, Newcastle United outlined plans to invest more than £30 million on facilities this summer.

The spending will see the pitch and matchday experience at St James’ Park improved, as well as extensive work on the training centre, which will be rebranded as ‘the KNOX’.

Sporting Director Ross Wilson said: “Across the first team training centre here, our academy and Cochrane Park, we’re making significant investment to improve the facilities that we have here already.

“The purpose of that is we really want to invest right across the pathway, from our men’s first team, through our academy and into our women’s programme as well as we continue raising the bar as much as we possibly can across everything that we’re doing here at Newcastle United.”

In the post, Wilson maintained that the club remains committed to moving to a bigger site for the training ground in the future but is keen to make ‘strides forward’ on current ground while those plans are finalised.

Newcastle spend £25 million on Leazes Terrace

It’s the latest statement from the club in a big news week off the pitch. Tuesday’s confirmation that the ground at Leazes Terrace had been purchased could be a big breakthrough for the expansion of St James’ Park.

That £25 million investment means that the club has unveiled over £55 million of spending in just over 24 hours, before the end of the 2025/26 season. It’s a real statement of intent ahead of the next campaign.

On Tuesday, the club’s statement read: “Newcastle United has completed the purchase of a significant portion of the historic Leazes Terrace building next to St. James’ Park.

“The acquisition of a substantial majority of the Grade I listed structure includes its northern, southern and western elevations – including all areas facing the stadium.

“It also includes most of its eastern elevation, with a small block of private residences remaining in this part of the building.”

It comes after Newcastle announced record income in March with a 44% increase in commercial income celebrated thanks to the Carabao Cup triumph and Champions League qualification.

In other news, Newcastle United must sack Howe and pounce for ‘incredible’ coach.
