Anthony Gordon replacements: 5 players Newcastle United could sign this summer

  • Anthony Gordon missed Newcastle United clash with Bournemouth
  • Eddie Howe’s quotes paint interesting picture
  • Links to Bayern Munich could see him out the door

Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon was left out of the squad in their game this weekend against Bournemouth, where lost at home once again, in a 2-1 defeat.

Eddie Howe’s comments midweek raised issues over the English forward being out of the squad, having stated that players not committed to the club would not feature for the Magpies – although before the game, the 47-year-old said it was due to a late injury problem.

This week, Bayern Munich have shown interest in the 25-year-old, and there is a feeling that this will be his final season on Tyneside. So here is a list put together by ReadNewcastle of five possible replacements for Gordon.

Said El Mala – Stuttgart

The German winger has been a breakout star this season for Stuttgart as they find themselves in the Champions League positions.

He has already been linked to St James’ Park this summer, but the club must act quickly as several other Premier League sides are supposed to be interested in the 19-year-old.

He has 15 goal contributions in 30 Bundesliga appearances, but it’s his direct nature combined with his speed which makes him a threat for any right back in Germany.

Crysencio Summerville – West Ham United

Since departing Leeds United to join West Ham, things haven’t been smooth sailing for Summerville, but since Nuno Espirito Santo joined the Hammers, he’s been much improved.

His hard work off the ball is much better, and his creativity is there for everyone to see, as he looks to help his side avoid relegation.

He has just eight goal contributions in the Premier League this season, but six of them have come in 2026, and if West Ham get relegated, he could be available at a cut price.

Antonio Nusa – RB Leipzig

Perhaps the most difficult deal out of the lot as the Black and Whites look set to miss out of European football, but the Norwegian winger would certainly fill the void Gordon would leave.

He has been on the brink of a move to the Premier League for a few years now, and came very close to joining Brentford in 2024, but he failed his medical.

His numbers haven’t been great this season for Leipzig, but if the Magpies can utilise him well, he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Jamie Gittens – Chelsea

The Blues paid a big fee for the English winger from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but he hasn’t had the chance to show his quality.

He has plenty of tricks in his bag, whether that’s his electric pace, his amazing footwork or his technical skill. He just hasn’t been able to showcase this at Stamford Bridge.

He has only played a full 90 minutes once, and if Chelsea decide to sell him in search of more talent, it could open the door for Newcastle.

William Gomes – Porto

Newcastle were linked with Porto’s Samu Aghehowa last summer in their search for a forward; this summer, they may return for the club’s Brazilian winger.

One key characteristic of Gomes is his versatility, as he is someone who can play on the right or left, similar to Gordon, who has featured as a striker recently.

He would cost Newcastle a handsome fee, and while it may be a risk at just 20, he has nine goal contributions in 24 league appearances and continues to shine each week.
