Newcastle United insider ‘laughs off’ Man Utd £40m transfer speculation
  • Newcastle United ready for another big name sale
  • Man Utd and Chelsea linked with Lewis Hall
  • Magpies ‘laugh off’ Red Devils valuation

Newcastle United are expected to green light at least one more big sale this summer, but talk of a £40 million deal with Manchester United for Lewis Hall has been laughed off.

iNews has the latest on outgoings from St James’ Park ahead of the 2026/27 season with the Magpies looking to build on the £69 million received for Anthony Gordon from FC Barcelona.

Newcastle are yet to trigger the £34.5 million release clause in Victor Munoz’s contract and must also avoid any financial losses that could be further punished by UEFA.

Newcastle United laugh off talk of £40m Man Utd bid

The outlet claims that ‘another big sale feels likely’ and that the club has not rejected that notion. It’s added that an insider at Newcastle United has, however, ‘laughed’ at the idea of selling defender Hall for £40 million.

The Red Devils have been credited with interest in the former Chelsea man, who was left out of the England squad for the World Cup by Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel.

iNews claims that a fee of closer to £80 million could start a conversation over the sale of Hall. The player cost Newcastle £28 million when signed from Chelsea in 2024.

Hall has gone on to make 102 appearances for the side. Speaking at the end of last season, Magpies manager Eddie Howe outlined that he expected the player to be part of the project on Tyneside for years to come.

Chelsea in market for Marc Cucurella replacement

The report comes after transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claimed that Manchester United had been active in keeping a potential transfer swoop open in recent days.

In a YouTube video, Romano said: “I wanted to mention something on Manchester United, because over the last two, three days, Manchester United kept the contacts alive and active with those close to Lewis Hall, the left back from Newcastle.

“Manchester United already made contact a few weeks ago. Manchester United have genuine interest in the player. They really like Lewis Hall, so he’s one of the targets.”

Chelsea have also been linked with what would be a head-turning swoop for Hall, who came through the academy at Stamford Bridge. The defender only ever made 12 senior appearances for the Blues.

Xabi Alonso’s side have just pocketed £52 million from the sale of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid and are in the market to replace the left-back.

Cucurella and Hall are both attacking full-backs and the Englishman would clearly know the lay of the land at the Bridge well.
