- Eddie Howe suffers another damaging Newcastle United defeat
- Frustration over team selection v Bournemouth
- Andoni Iraola, Jose Mourinho and Roberto Mancini all linked with St James’ Park job
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe sees the pressure on his future increase following a third successive 2-1 defeat in the Premier League.
It was AFC Bournemouth who inflicted the damage on Saturday afternoon, following in the footsteps of Crystal Palace and Sunderland.
Magpies supporters were frustrated to see £69 million bagsman Nick Woltemade on the bench with patience starting to run thin. We look at the frontrunners to replace Eddie Howe.
Marco Silva – 16/1
The Fulham manager is out of contract at the end of the season. Silva is reported to be in talks with the Cottagers over an extension but no agreement has yet been reached.
The former Everton and Watford boss has done a sterling job in getting Fulham back into the Premier League and cementing their status in the top flight, but has shared frustrations with a lack of financial backing.
Oliver Glasner – 16/1
Oliver Glasner will leave Selhurst Park as a club legend this summer, having won the FA Cup and Community Shield with the Eagles last season – with the potential for Europa League glory before the end of the current campaign.
Crystal Palace have a reputation for buying talent and cashing in as they reach their peak. That set-up has proven infuriating for Glasner, losing the likes of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi, and the Austrian is to take on a new challenge.
Roberto Mancini – 16/1
Roberto Mancini lifted the Premier League trophy with Manchester City in 2012 and could make a sensational return at St James’ Park. The Italian hasn’t managed in the top flight since leaving the Cityzens in 2013.
The 61-year-old is currently working at Al-Sadd in the Qatar Stars League. He’s also won the Serie A three times and the Euros as a manager.
Jose Mourinho – 6/1
Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho would certainly make headlines should he return to the Premier League, but has suggested that the Magpies job could be the perfect fit.
He said: “If any club in England from the bottom of the table needs a coach in two years, I am ready to go.
“I had three clubs in England, Chelsea twice, so in four different periods I’ve coached in England and I loved it. I’ve been so, so lucky to live in beautiful countries and beautiful cities like Istanbul, Rome, Madrid, Milan but my family lives in London. London is home so one day I want to be back, unless nobody wants me.”
Andoni Iraola – 5/1
Newcastle United fans need little proof as to the quality of Andoni Iraola, after the AFC Bournemouth manager led his side to a 2-1 win over the Magpies on Saturday afternoon.
Iraola has been an overwhelming success at the Vitality Stadium and could secure European football next season. He confirmed his departure in the summer this week.
