- Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Sandro Tonali
- Italian international open to a move to North London
- Tonali increasingly likely to leave Newcastle United
Newcastle United face a massive battle in their hands to retain Sandro Tonali at the club beyond the summer transfer window.
The Italian midfielder has been a key player at the club under Eddie Howe and has become one of the most reliable midfielders in the Premier League.
Tonali is wanted by Arsenal and Manchester United, among others, with his agent offering him to the Gunners in the January transfer window.
And now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign him, with the midfielder keen on a move to North London.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Sandro Tonali wants Tottenham move
Earlier this week, we wrote on Read Newcastle that Manchester United will not make a move to Tonali as they are unwilling to pay his £100m asking price.
That update was also from Romano, which came as music to the ears of the Newcastle United faithful.
Now, however, in a bombshell, the Italian journalist has confirmed that Tottenham have entered the race to sign the talented midfielder, with Roberto De Zerbi looking to make him a central figure of his project.
Romano has also mentioned interest from Arsenal and Manchester City, adding that Spurs want to prove their ambitions in the transfer market with a big move for Tonali.
Tonali willing to swap Newcastle United for Tottenham
Romano’s initial post on X wasn’t the worst news possible for the Geordie faithful. A few hours later, he provided an elaborate update on his YouTube channel, where he confirmed that Tonali is keen on a move to Tottenham.
“Sandro Tonali is keen on a move to Tottenham; he is ready to make a move to Spurs,” said the transfer guru.
“Tonali is attracted by the project and wants to play under De Zerbi, as they share a very close connection, even without Europe! Could take £85m package.”
Matteo Moretto, another reliable journalist, doubled down on Romano’s claims that Tonali is keen on a move to Tottenham, as seen below.
We have to call a spade a spade and admit that this is obviously a massive blow for Newcastle United and Eddie Howe’s project at the club.
Earlier this summer, there was a freak rumour that Tottenham would make a move for Bruno Guimaraes, which the Newcastle United fans laughed off on social media.
Now, however, it has been reliably confirmed that they want to sign Tonali, whose willingness to move to North London is an absolute sucker punch for the Magpies.
Nothing is set in stone yet, but this doesn’t look like it will end well for Newcastle.
