Freddie Woodman admits Man Utd defeat ‘wasn’t good enough’ in social media post

Newcastle United suffered a 4-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon and Freddie Woodman underperformed while playing a full 90 minutes at Old Trafford, leading to him putting up an Instagram post to admit he ‘wasn’t good enough’ on the day.

Man Utd took the lead in first-half injury time after Woodman spilled a deflected shot into the path of Cristiano Ronaldo and the Red Devils retook the lead after the hour mark after Ronaldo nutmegged Woodman with a shot that he should have done better with.

Bruno Fernandes beat the 24-year-old with a long-range effort to make it 3-1 in the 80th minute before Jesse Lingard wrapped up the scoring in injury time. Woodman may feel he was culpable for United’s first two goals and is determined to put it right next time.

The former England U21 international has made five appearances in all competitions this season, conceding 12 goals and keeping one clean sheet. Woodman has shipped two or more goals per game in the league and will hope to shut out Leeds United in Friday’s meeting.
