When Newcastle United made the move to bring in Matthias Jaissle as the replacement for Eddie Howe, there were many eyebrows raised at the idea. Yes, this was a talented manager, but also one who had never proven himself at the top level. Jaissle’s previous successes had come at RB Salzburg and Al-Ahli. So, the […]
If Eddie Howe had remained Newcastle United manager, things would have played out one way. But since he did not, and Matthias Jaissle was brought in as his replacement, there were a lot of unexpected decisions that were taken that not many would have seen coming. There were some players who did not seem to […]
Newcastle United have already seen one captain leave this season as Bruno Guimaraes moved to Arsenal. In the aftermath of that, Dan Burn was named the new skipper of the Magpies. Is it a long-term solution though or just a stop-gap pick? Burn is 34 years of age already. And while he has continued to […]
This summer, we saw a very different approach from Newcastle United in the transfer market. It was a clear showcase that the policy had changed from win now to building something sustainable in the long run. The Magpies have brought in players largely in their early 20s or late teens this summer. As a result, […]
Newcastle United have made plenty of signings this summer. To be honest, a lot of them have not had the desired impact. But then, there have been some who have done very well, perhaps even exceeding expectations. There has been all this talk about the late signings of Nico Gonzalez and Matias Fernandez-Pardo. The Spaniard […]
It would not be wrong to say that club loyalty has become rarer in football in recent years. But there are still a few examples of players who have chosen to proudly represent teams, even after they have left. You can add the name of a former Newcastle United player to that list. Allan Saint-Maximin […]
Newcastle United have undergone plenty of changes over the course of the summer. Of course, on the pitch, they have seen key players like Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon depart. One could argue that these are the three best the club had. Off the pitch, changes have been aplenty as well. It began […]
Newcastle United might have left themselves light in quite a few positions following the end of this summer transfer window. For example, who is the backup for Lewis Hall. Hall himself was linked with a move away all summer. Fortunately, that did not end up happening and he has remained at St James’ Park for […]
Newcastle United signed players in a lot of positions over the course of the summer transfer window. But somehow, one they seemed to miss is centre-back. Perhaps the club were simply happy with the options that were available to them. But one could also argue that more could have been done in that area of […]
It would be safe to say that not every Newcastle United summer transfer move has produced results so far. Nico Gonzalez looks like someone who will be a starter moving forward. Matias Fernandez-Pardo seems destined for a similar role once he settles into English football. Amar Dedic has been an absolute revelation and looks set […]
The summer transfer window has now closed for most leagues around the world. And it is hard to imagine that clubs would be open to the idea of any exits beyond this point, even if it were possible. That same should apply to Newcastle United. One could argue that Newcastle United were significantly weakened during […]
The change of manager often ends up changing the fortune of some players. And that might be exactly what has happened with multiple players this summer at Newcastle United. With Eddie Howe in place, it had looked like there were quite a few who were headed for the exit door. But then, he was replaced […]
