When Newcastle United made the move to bring in Matthias Jaissle as the replacement for Eddie Howe, there were many eyebrows raised at the idea. Yes, this was a talented manager, but also one who had never proven himself at the top level.
Jaissle’s previous successes had come at RB Salzburg and Al-Ahli. So, the Premier League was always going to be a jump for him, no matter what he has achieved at previous clubs.
That being said, it is worth pointing out that Jaissle has made a much better start than most had expected. Coming into the season, after the summer transfer window, the Magpies were being viewed by many as potential relegation contenders and understandably so.
But after the first five games of the campaign, Newcastle United have not tasted defeat yet and Jaissle has made a positive impression, not only on the viewers but also those inside the club.
Matthias Jaissle has impressed Newcastle insiders
According to The i Paper, Jaissle’s ability to “connect” with the players is one thing that has been noted by Newcastle insiders. The German manager believes in regular and honest communication with the squad.
It helps that Jaissle is only 38 years of age and already has a solid foundation as a manager, when most others might not have even started at the top level.
So, he should have a better understanding of how to connect with modern day footballers, and he appears to be showing that since arriving at St James’ Park.
It is also noteworthy that while Jaissle may not appear it in press conferences, but he is an emotional character and has also been described as an “absolute workaholic”.
Is Matthias Jaissle the perfect manager for Newcastle United right now?
Newcastle United are in a period of transition right now. They have not only lost their long-time manager but have clearly undergond an identity change as well.
In the past, it had looked like the club were intent on building a win-now team, and the Magpies succeeded to a certain extent under Howe.
They ended a seven-decade wait for domestic silverware and qualified for the Champions League on more than one occasion. But the focus has not turned towards building a sustainable model.
They have signed youngsters all across the board this summer while letting go of experienced players. So, someone like Jaissle might be the perfect fit for that.
