It would not be wrong to say that club loyalty has become rarer in football in recent years. But there are still a few examples of players who have chosen to proudly represent teams, even after they have left. You can add the name of a former Newcastle United player to that list.
Allan Saint-Maximin spent four seasons playing for Newcastle United and certainly made his presence felt at the club. And it is very clear that he still values his time spent at St James’ Park quite highly.
It has been quite some time since Saint-Maximin left Newcastle United. But after representing eleven different clubs, he has named the Magpies as his ‘dream club’.
Allan Saint-Maximin makes brilliant Newcastle United admission
According to BBC, Saint-Maximin said:
“Newcastle is my dream club. I love it from the bottom of my heart. I watch every single game.
“They gave me what no-one gave to me and I’ll never forget that. I’m very loyal. I had many opportunities to come to the Premier League, but I didn’t because of them.”
Saint-Maximin might have had his ups and downs during his time at Newcastle United, but it is safe to say that he is the kind of player that even rival fans will remember.
Saint-Maximin brought an entertaining style of play that is often missing from modern-day football. And as a result, he was able to create an unique brand for himself amongst Newcastle United and Premier League fans in general.
Saint-Maximin has had an interesting career since he left Newcastle
It would be safe to say that Saint-Maximin has had an interesting career since he left Newcastle United in 2023. He has already been at five different clubs since then.
Saint-Maximin left Newcastle United to join Al-Ahli in 2023. He would then have a loan spell at Fenerbahce before leaving permanently to join Mexican side Club America.
That was followed by a short stint in France with Lens and then a move to the MLS to play for Charlotte FC, which is where he finds himself at this time.
Five completely different leagues within the space of three years, it is safe to say that Saint-Maximin has not exactly found his feet since leaving Newcastle United.
One has to wonder if he wishes he had remained at Newcastle United. But still just 29 years of age, the Frenchman still has a decent chance of finding stability somewhere.
Perhaps it could end up being at Charlotte FC. Or maybe more moves lie ahead in his future. You never know. But one thing is for sure, he entertained the fans during his time at Newcastle United and the fans will always remember him fondly.
