Newcastle United ready to perform U-turn and make offer to player

The change of manager often ends up changing the fortune of some players. And that might be exactly what has happened with multiple players this summer at Newcastle United.

With Eddie Howe in place, it had looked like there were quite a few who were headed for the exit door. But then, he was replaced by Matthias Jaissle in the middle of pre-season. And that seems to have had a positive impact on some, who, before then, appeared to have reached the end of the road at St James’ Park.

Jaissle has come in and immediately taken a liking to some players who might not have been in Howe’s plans. And a few have looked reborn under the German manager. One of them could soon be offered a contract extension.

Newcastle United to make U-turn and offer new deal

According to Football Insider, Joe Willock will be offered a contract extension by Newcastle United if he continues to perform well under Jaissle.

Willock was widely expected to leave this summer. In fact, Besiktas made multiple bids to try and sign him. But ultimately, a move did not happen and Newcastle United fans will be happy about it.

Willock has been one of Newcastle United’s more impactful players so far this season. His latest contribution came in the form of an 81st minute winner against Millwall in the League Cup.

The report further goes on to state that Willock is now likely to be offered a new contract by the club after Matthias Jaissle pushed to keep him around, particularly if he continues to feature regularly in the coming months.

Why Newcastle should keep Willock

Willock has been at Newcastle United since 2021. And it had looked like the former Arsenal man was almost certain to leave the club this summer. He has less than a year left on his contract.

It did not happen. Instead, he has ended up starting four of the five games under Jaissle so far. He has also contributed with a coupld of goals.

Willock scored against Liverpool in the opening game of the weekend. And of course, I have already mentioned his winner against Millwall this week.

So, his Newcastle United career has well and truly gotten a second wind under the watch of Jaissle. Now, it remains to be seen if he can maintain his newfound form.

This is a team that lacks experience at the moment. So, if Willock can keep on performing, it is not hard to see why they might keen to keep him around.

Also, at 27 years of age, he might only be entering his prime on the pitch. This could easily turnaround to be an incredible turnaround tale for the ex-Arsenal player.
