Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has confirmed a fresh injury concern ahead of Monday’s Premier League meeting with Everton after William Osula was forced off during their Carabao Cup defeat.
The 23-year-old suffered an ankle injury during Thursday’s 3-1 defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium and was unable to continue after the first half. He was subsequently replaced by Yoane Wissa.
It is another setback for William Osula, who was making only his second start since returning from a two-month injury layoff. The striker also missed three months of last season with an ankle injury.
Jaissle provides William Osula injury update
Speaking after the defeat, Matthias Jaissle explained how Osula picked up the injury and why he was taken off at half-time.
“Will Osula was not able to continue; he twisted his ankle on that occasion when he took the shot, and with the other two as well, we wanted to have a bit more fresh energy at the end, and also with thinking, of course, about Monday’s match.”
The Newcastle boss was also asked whether the striker could recover in time for Monday’s Premier League encounter against Everton.
“Yeah, it’s too early at the moment,” he admitted.
Jaissle has concerns over his forwards missing a lot of chances. The latest Osula injury setback will be another worrying sign for the manager who has demanded his players to be clinical upfront.
Newcastle United injury concerns ahead of Everton
Newcastle have several other injury concerns ahead of Monday’s game as well. Ewen Jaouen (thigh) and Tino Livramento (knee) are expected to miss out, while Lewis Miley remains a doubt after missing the cup tie. Matias Fernandez-Pardo is also uncertain after missing Thursday’s game through illness.
