Newcastle United issue an Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey injury update ahead of the Crystal Palace clash

Newcastle United injury news

Newcastle United hope Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey can return to group training this week, while Tino Livramento continues his recovery.

Newcastle United is optimistic that Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey will be able to resume training with the rest of the team this week. Head coach Matthias Jaissle is trying to keep up with the increasing number of injuries at the club.

Both players are currently out for five weeks and contribute to the increasing woes of the Newcastle United side.

The Magpies have spent a combined £98 million on the two players. Elanga joined from Nottingham Forest, and Ramsey arrived from Aston Villa over the summer. Their potential returns could come at a good time as Newcastle prepare for a hectic run of fixtures.

However, supporters may have to wait a little longer before either midfielder or winger is available for selection.

Jaissle outlines Newcastle United injury recovery plans

Newcastle United have been without Elanga and Ramsey since their Carabao Cup third-round victory over Millwall on September 8.

Elanga missed the following Premier League trip to Leeds United, who ended up winning 4-1. Ramsey was among the substitutes but failed to make his debut due to a groin complaint during the warm-up.

Speaking on their progress, Jaissle said that Newcastle would take it easy rather than rush the players back into action.

The head coach went on to say that Elanga had been out for quite some time now and that it would take a while to get him match fit again.

Newcastle’s boss added that he hoped the winger would be able to report for light training with the squad next week and that his return would be gradual.

Jaissle added that they missed Elanga at Newcastle and that it was important to get the summer signing back available.

The 24-year-old has been present in all three of Newcastle’s fixtures in the Premier League. He was also able to find the back of the net against both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur ahead of his injury.

The return of Ramsey could also prove vital, as he was finding his way back in slowly and even netted a late equaliser against Bournemouth.

Jaissle revealed that Ramsey is on track to make a good recovery. It will soon be possible for him to resume partial training. The medical team will check and see how he will be progressing before making any further plans.

Newcastle United could delay returns until Everton tie

Newcastle go head-to-head with Crystal Palace on Sunday. Elanga and Ramsey are unlikely to be involved as they continue to work their way back to full fitness. Next week’s Carabao Cup clash against Everton potentially offers a more realistic return date.

Tino Livramento is also continuing to sit out as he makes his way back to full fitness after he was expected to return to the field of play in the coming weeks. Jaissle is keen to take it easy with the defender, considering his injury history.

The latest news surrounding Newcastle United injuries offers positive news for fans with three players who have made the step back towards a return to the pitch. However, the main concern at the moment is making sure they are fully fit before their return to action.
