‘Having a medical’ – Next Newcastle United transfer confirmed

So far this summer, the Newcastle United story has revolved around exits. Some of their top players have left. On top of that, Eddie Howe quit in the middle of pre-season as well.

Now, this is a new era for the club with Matthias Jaissle as the new manager. Is that reason enough to be excited though? Or do the club need to do a lot more?

Most Newcastle United fans will be leaning towards the latter. Now, we know what the Magpies’ next transfer move is going to be. Once again, it is set to be an exit.

But for a change, this is set to be a loan move. At the same time, it is not going to have a major impact on first-team plans, like the previous few transfers.

Newcastle defender set to leave on loan

According to Craig Hope, Newcastle United defender Alex Murphy is on the verge of a season-long loan move to German club Kaiserslautern. The Republic of Ireland youth international is having a medical ahead of joining the Bundesliga 2 side.

Murphy has already played a bit of first-team football for Newcastle United. He has made eight appearances in total for the Magpies, with four of them coming in the Premier League.

That being said, it is quite clear that the 22-year-old is nowhere near the first-team picture, when it comes to getting regular game time. So, going out on loan is the right step for Murphy.

He has already had one spell away on loan at Bolton Wanderers. Now, he is going to Germany and will get the chance to experience a different culture and style of football. It can only help the Irishman grow as a player.

Newcastle United need to make some signings of their own

Newcastle United need a lot of reinforcements. And with just weeks left in this summer transfer window, it is hard not to feel that they are allowing things to drag on for no real reason.

Of course, the midfield has been the point of focus and for understandable reasons. Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, arguably the club’s two best players, have left.

The forward line needs strengthening as well. Alexander Isak was never really replaced as Nick Woltemade and Yoann Wissa failed to meet expectations in their debut seasons for the Magpies.

But amid all this, one cannot overlook the defensive issues at the club. The centre-back options need a bit freshening up. They have ageing issues as well as injury problems. On the other hand, the Magpies are paper-thin in the full-back areas.
