There has been a ton of negativity around Newcastle United over the last few years. The Magpies have done barely anything of note in the summer transfer window. They are now losing key players, with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali heading for the exit door. And on top of everything else, it looks like the club will be working under financial constraints this summer.
That means that even if they bring in a transfer fee close to £100 million for Tonali’s impending move to Tottenham Hotspur, they are not expected to be signing a player of similar value. Instead, it is more likely that they will be reinvesting that sum to sign two of three players.
It remains to be seen how that strategy ends up working if indeed implemented. On the other hand, it is evident that Newcastle United have been working quietly in the background.
Newcastle United are now set to complete one signing that nobody would have seen coming, showing that the club are capable of pulling off moves out of nowhere and just because there is no speculation does not mean that work is not being done in the background.
Fabrizio Romano confirms new signing for Newcastle United
The news had broken in Germany already last night. Now, it has been confirmed by none other than Fabrizio Romano, which should signal that is as good as done.
According to Romano, Newcastle United have agreed a €50 million package deal to sign Bazoumana Toure. The move has been given the Italian’s famous ‘here we go’.
The agreement was sealed with the player’s agents and Hoffenheim after the official bid was submitted. Toure will sign a long term deal at St James’ Park this week.
Toure is set to become Newcastle United’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The first was Ewen Jaouen, the goalkeeper brought in from Reims.
Toure’s signing has come out of the blue. But it is not a name that is completely unfamiliar to fans. The Ivorian winger had drawn interest from several clubs in England back when he was at Hammarby. A move did not happen back then. But it is set to materialise now.
Who is Bazoumana Toure?
Toure’s name has done the rounds for a few years now. It is remarkable that he is still 20. After an excellent but brief spell at Hammarby, the Ivorian proved his quality at the Bundesliga level at Hoffenheim.
In 45 games for Hoffenheim, Toure scored five goals and provided 15 assists. That is an excellent return for a winger who is still just 20 years of age.
Toure has always seemed headed for big things. Now, the €50 million move to Newcastle United is on the verge of completion. Expectations will be high but they need to be realistic as well.
It would be remarkable if Toure can come in and immediately make an impact at St James’ Park. But if he does not, he should be given time to find his feet in the Premier League.
