As it turns out, Newcastle United have been working hard in silence. Soon after news broke that the Magpies had agreed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur to part ways with Sandro Tonali, they found an agreement for a signing of their own.
Tonali is not the only big-name player to leave St James’ Park this summer. Anthony Gordon left for Barcelona before him. Now, the Magpies have found a replacement for the Englishman on the left flank.
Newcastle United are working under some financial constraints at the moment. But those big-money exits have given them some room to work with.
They have used it to agree a deal for a winger currently away at the World Cup. He is set to be Newcastle United’s first big signing of the summer.
Newcastle United agree €50m deal to sign winger out of nowhere
According to Florian Plettenberg, Bazoumana Toure to Newcastle is a done deal. An agreement has been reached with TSG Hoffenheim. It is a €50 million transfer fee, a record figure for the German club.
To be very honest, not many saw this move coming. The Magpies have been linked with a few wingers in recent days. The name of Toure was not amongst them.
So, this move has come out of nowhere. But there is plenty for Newcastle fans to be happy about. It does solve one problem position for the club.
It remains to be seen how Toure adjusts to life in the Premier League. He does have the potential to turn out to be a St James’ Park success story.
Who is Bazoumana Toure?
While Toure might not have been linked with Newcastle United this window, that does not mean that it is an unfamiliar name. On the contrary, the winger has been involved in him some high-profile rumours in the past.
Toure has been drawing the interest of clubs going back to his days at Hammarby. And it was a surprise that he ended up at Hoffenheim, rather than one of Europe’s top clubs, when he did make the move.
In hindsight, that has proven to be a smart decision on Toure’s part. At Hoffenheim, he scored five goals and provided 15 assists in 45 appearances.
Still just 20 years of age, he is not taking the next step in his development. A move to Newcastle United. We can only wish him the best of luck in this journey.
