Newcastle United fans have not had much to cheer about this summer so far. Many are even worried about the direction of the project, with key players leaving while those of equal quality might not be signed.
Fortunately, it looks like there is some movement in the transfer market for Newcastle United. The Magpies have agreed a record deal with Tottenham Hotspur for the departure of Sandro Tonali. But on the other hand, they have not waited long for to make a signing of their own.
Most would have expected Newcastle United to sign a midfielder immediately after Tonali’s exit. But instead, it looks like it is a winger they were working to sign, quietly in the background. Not many had seen the move coming when the news first broke.
Bazoumana Toure of Hoffenheim is on his way to Newcastle United. And Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg has shared some fresh details regarding the move.
Florian Plettenberg reveals fresh details about Newcastle United’s Bazoumana Toure signing
As reported by Plettenberg, Hoffenheim have also secured a 10% sell-on clause as part of the deal that will see Toure join Newcastle United this summer. The €50 million fee is almost guaranteed. The medical and signing are planned within the next 48 hours.
Toure was away at the World Cup with the Ivory Coast this summer. But they were knocked out of the tournament in the round of 32 by Norway this week, despite putting in a valiant effort.
It looks like Toure won’t be taking much time to deal with that exit. He should be on his way to complete a move to Newcastle United within the next 48 hours.
After that, one would assume that Toure would get a short break before returning to take part in the Magpies’ pre-season. He played a full season of football for Hoffenheim before heading to the World Cup and needs some well-earned rest.
Is Toure the right signing for Newcastle United?
Of course, there is always going to be an element of risk involved when it comes to signing a 20-year-old winger, who has never played in the Premier League.
Toure has been highly regarded for a long time though. He has been linked with a move to the Premier League going back to his days at Hammarby.
Toure did decide to move to Hoffenheim instead, and it proved to be a shrewd move on his part. He got the chance to play in a top five European league to add to his experience.
It was not just a matter of participating either. Toure made a genuine impact. In 45 appearances for Hoffenheim, he scored five goals and provided 15 assists as well.
