There has been so much talk about players leaving Newcastle United this summer. Sandro Tonali is believed to have agreed personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur already. Bruno Guimaraes is drawing interest from Arsenal, which might only grow after an excellent World Cup campaign. Obviously, Anthony Gordon has already left and the likes of Nick Pope and Joe Willock could be heading for the exit door as well.
There are plenty more who could do the same. UEFA’s fines for Newcastle United recently came to light. Those mean that they will need to work under certain financial constraints.
As a result, the summer transfer window might end up becoming an activity in balancing the books. The only way they might be able to sign players is if they are willing to let a few leave first.
Amid all this, it looks like one player and his camp are more desperate than others to engineer an exit. If reports are accurate, they have even given the club an ultimatum on a summer move.
Player reportedly trying to engineer Newcastle United exit
Pope has been linked with a move away from Newcastle United this summer. He might not be the only goalkeeper on his way out though. Another is Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Reports suggest that Vlachodimos wants to leave Newcastle United and return to Sevilla. He spent the previous season on loan at the Spanish club.
It is believed that Newcastle United would be looking for around £10 million to part ways with the goalkeeper on a permanent basis. But clubs are not keen to pay that for the 32-year-old.
On the other hand, according to a report from ESTADIO Deportivo, Odysseas has issued an ultimatum to Newcastle, closing off any other option than reaching an agreement with Sevilla.
So, if the Magpies are not able to agree on a transfer fee with Sevilla, they might have to sanction another loan move. Let’s see how this plays out.
Signing Odysseas was a mistake
Odysseas was signed by Newcastle United from Nottingham Forest in the same window in which Elliot Anderson headed in the opposite direction. It is pretty clear which club came out on top.
Anderson has gone on to develop into one of the best midfielders in the world. He will be joining Manchester City in a £116 million move this summer.
On the other hand, Newcastle United had spent £20 million signing Odysseas, the most they have ever spent on signing a goalkeeper. He has never even made a league appearance for them.
It looks like that will remain the case as well. And the decision to sign Odysseas will probably go down as one of the biggest transfer mistaks in the Magpies’ history.
