There is a lot of talk surrounding Newcastle United at the moment, as is always the case. Things have ramped up, especially in recent days though, owing to the potential exits of key players like Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes being on the horizon.
It is not all bad news if you are a Newcastle United player though. It appears that the Magpies already have their eyes set on potential replacements in the middle of the park, with a World Cup standout being on their radar.
Also, a former Newcastle United player has completed a move to another English club, with the announcement now being made official. And there is plenty more.
Newcastle want to sign Swiss World Cup standout
Newcastle United will be keeping an eye out on midfield targets this summer. That is due to the uncertainty around the future of players like Tonali and Guimaraes.
Both are key to the Magpies in the middle of the park. If either or both of them leave in this transfer window, it will not be easy to replace them. Newcastle United do seem to have picked out one player as a potential replacement though.
Johan Manzambi has been an absolute standout for Switzerland at the ongoing World Cup. Three goals and an assist in the group stages help the Swiss national team book their place in the knockout rounds as the table toppers.
Newcastle United seem to have taken note. Reliable sources have confirmed the club’s interest in the Swissman, who can play in midfield, on the flank and even as a second striker.
Player leaves Newcastle United and joins York City FC
While there are worries about how Newcastle United will adjust if the likes of Tonali and Guimaraes end up leaving, not all exits carry that sort of weight behind them.
Charlie McArthur was highly regarded when Newcastle United signed him. He even captained Scotland at the U17 European Championships.
McArthur’s career at St James’ Park did not pan out as hoped though. After a couple of loan spells away, he has left the club this summer, with his contract running out.
He will be looking to rebuild his career from the lower leagues. York City FC of the English League Two have announced the signing of McArthur as a free agent.
Felix Nmecha makes decision
Signing someone like Felix Nmecha would be a statement of intent from Newcastle United. And it might be about time that the club make one, if Tonali or Guimaraes or both leave.
Unfortunately, signing Nmecha won’t be straightforward. Obviously, the transfer fee is going to be a stumbling block as Borussia Dortmund could look for as much as €100 million.
Then there are recent reports which suggest that Nmecha would prefer a move to either Manchester club, both said to be interested, over joining Newcastle United this summer.
So, that hurts the Magpies’ chances of signing Nmecha this summer. And to be frank, they might never have been in the race in the first place.
