Sky Sports confirm Newcastle United interest in £42m World Cup standout

It would be safe to say that Newcastle United need to add a bit of quality to their squad this summer. Their midfield and forward line could both do with some strengthening. What if they sign someone capable of adding quality to both those areas of the pitch?

Newcastle United’s midfield could be significantly affected this summer. Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are being heavily linked with moves away. Joe Willock could be on his way out as well.

As for the forward line, that is a problem already. Alexander Isak left last summer. Anthony Gordon is moving to Barcelona this time around. And the players Newcastle United have signed have not proven to be good enough.

That has left them with a weakened squad. On top of that, it looks like the Magpies will be working under financial constraints. But those have not stopped them from targeting a Swiss international enjoying a stellar World Cup campaign.

Sky Sports confirm Newcastle United interest in Johan Manzambi

According to a report from Sky Sports, Newcastle are interested in Switzerland international midfielder Johan Manzambi. The SC Freiburg youngster has a transfer valuation of £42 million.

Manzambi enjoyed a great 25/26 campaign with SC Freiburg. He scored seven goals and provided nine assists for SC Freiburg in 47 appearances across all competitions.

The World Cup has proven to be the real breakthrough for the Swissman though. Representing the Switzerland national team, he has scored three goals and provided an assist in three games so far.

After drawing their opener, Switzerland won their next two games on the back of Manzambi’s strong performances. He scored a brace against Bosnia & Herzegovina, and then registered a goal and an assist in their win over Canada to make it into the next round as group toppers.

What Manzambi brings to the table

There is no doubt that Manzambi will be a man in demand this summer. So, if Newcastle United want to sign him, they might need to move their move quick.

The level of interest in Manzembi will depend on how the rest of his World Cup campaign goes. And so might his transfer valuation, which is currently thought to be in the region of £42 million.

Manzambi is mostly known for being a midfielder. But he can play as a second striker with ease and also on the flank. That kind of versatility will help Eddie Howe.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle United end up making a serious push to sign him or not. But it is hard not to be excited by the speculation around such a talented player.
