It looks like the Newcastle United squad is going to look pretty different by the time this summer transfer window comes to an end. Some high-profile names are being linked with moves away or have already completed exits.
Anthony Gordon has made the move to FC Barcelona. Sandro Tonali continues to be heavily linked with a move away and reports suggest he has already agreed terms with Tottenham Hotspur. Bruno Guimaraes is drawing heavy interest from Arsenal.
But it is not just the big names who might be on their way out. Some players have also completed moves away that have gone under the radar.
It is worth keeping an eye on those as well, even though it might not have as big of an impact on Eddie Howe’s as the likes of Gordon, Tonali and Guimaraes.
English club announce signing of defender after four years at Newcastle United
There are plenty of youngsters Newcastle United have signed in recent years who have not been able to succeed at St James’ Park. Charlie McArthur’s name has now gone down in that list.
English League Two club York City FC have now announced that they have signed McArthur following the expiry of his contract at Newcastle United.
McArthur broke into senior football at Scottish club Kilmarnock before the move to Newcastle United. But he was clearly not ready for the jump.
Eventually, he had a loan stint at Carlisle United. That was followed by a move back to Scotland to play for Airdrieonians for half a season.
Charlie McArthur completes move to York City FC
McArthur’s contract with Newcastle United ran out this summer. And he has now completed a permanent move to League Two. That might be the right step for him as he looks to rebuild his career from the ground up. We can wish him nothing but the best of luck.
McArthur might not have made the grade at Newcastle United. But he is still 21 years of age and has time on his side, when it comes to turning his career around.
He has represented Scotland at multiple youth international levels. He even captained the Scotland U-17 side at the U-17 EUROs back in 2022.
So, the talent and potential are quite clearly there. He just needs to find a stable environment where he will play consistent first-team football. One would imagine that he has gotten those assurances from York City FC, which is why he has made the move to the foutth division.
