Newcastle United have quite the task on their hands this summer, finding a winger capable of replacing Anthony Gordon. FC Barcelona spent €80 million signing the England international. That shows you how highly he is regarded.
So, finding a replacement won’t be straightforward. But it does look like Newcastle United have a Norwegian winger on their radar.
To be fair, Newcastle United’s recruitment has been pretty solid when it comes to the big-money signings. And it looks like they could be set to make another such move this summer.
According to Chronicle Live, RB Leipzig will now accept a reduced offer of £43.1 million for Antonio Nusa. Newcastle United have scouted him.
Newcastle United eyeing Antonio Nusa
Nusa has been one of the most highly-regarded youngsters in the game for a long time now, going back to his days at Club Brugge. He has made the step up since then and joined RB Leipzig.
In 71 appearances for RB Leipzig since then, Nusa has scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists in 71 appearances for the Bundesliga club.
The Norwegian winger has now completed two seasons in the Bundesliga, playing for RB Leipzig. It might be time for a change of scenery once again.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle United end up making an offer of that magnitude for Nusa or not. While he has always been highly-regarded, one could argue that his numbers have not matched the hype so far.
Newcastle have been linked with multiple wingers recently
The Magpies have been linked with more than one winger since the departure of Gordon. At one point, it had looked like they had found their replacement in the form of Victor Munoz.
But that was not to be. Liverpool made a last-minute move for the Spanish winger and were successfully in signing Munoz ahead of Newcastle United.
Lately, they have been linked with Real Betis’ Abde Ezzalzouli as well. He is another winger who is very highly regarded and could be ready for the next step.
Are Newcastle United being viewed as a viable destination by top wingers right now though? The Magpies do not have European football on offer next season.
Also, many would argue that the Newcastle United project has not proven to be as exciting as many would have expected when the takeover went through. Yes, they have won the League Cup and played the Champions League a few times. But this is not one of the top teams in England yet, and key players are now starting to leave.
