It would be an understatement to say that Newcastle United fans are not particularly happy with how things have gone in recent times. The Magpies took a huge step back last season, finishing 12th in the Premier League.
Many supporters wanted to see Eddie Howe being shown the exit door. That has not happened. And perhaps that is the right step. But Howe now has a lot to prove next season.
Unfortunately, things have not been made easy for him. Anthony Gordon has already left to join Barcelona. It had looked like Newcastle United had agreed on his replacement, only for Liverpool to swoop in late and sign Victor Munoz instead.
The midfield could be an area of worry as well. Sandro Tonali could be on his way out as he draws interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester City. Victor Guimaraes is believed to be considering a potential exit as well. And an English midfielder could join them out the exit door.
English midfielder looks set to leave Newcastle United this summer
According to Football Insider, Newcastle United will listen to offers for Joe Willock. The Magpies expect the midfielder to leave the club this summer.
Willock has seen his importance in the team somewhat decrease over time. And with his contract nearing an end as well, Newcastle United might be eager to part ways now rather than lose him as a free agent a year down the line.
Willock started just 10 games in the Premier League and three in the Champions League last season. So, he is a rotational player at best right now.
There is interest in him elsewhere though. The same report goes to suggest that Willock has Premier League clubs monitoring the situation.
Newcastle’s midfield could look very different next season
With the amount of rumours doing the rounds, it is very possible that the Newcastle United midfield could look significantly different next season.
When I talk about rumours, it is not just potential exits. If there are departures, Newcastle will need to replace them. And quite a few players have been linked with the Magpies lately as well.
Lamine Camare of AS Monaco is one of them. He is very highly regarded for the job that he has done for the French club and could be ready for the next step.
Another midfielder who appears to be on their radar is Kees Smit. The Dutch international could also be a transfer target for Liverpool, who have already gotten the better of Newcastle United once this summer with the Munoz signing.
