Newcastle United make offer for €40m French midfielder

Newcastle United’s midfield could be set to undergo a lot of changes over the course of this summer. Firstly, we need to talk about the potential exits. And there could be quite a few of them.

Sandro Tonali looks like the most likely one to be leaving. Tottenham Hotspur have already made a bid in the region of £80 million. And even though it was not accepted, when a club make a first offer of that magnitude, more often than not, they find a way.

So, even if the Tonali saga drags on, it is likely that an exit route will eventually be found. Then there is Bruno Guimaraes, another key Newcastle United midfielder who could eye a move away after this World Cup. Joe Willock is expected to be on his way out as well.

So, Newcastle United might need to look for multiple replacements in this summer window. And it looks like they have already taken the first step towards signing a French midfielder.

A Serie A midfield standout is on the radar of the Magpies. According to Tuttosport, Newcastle United have made an official offer for Arthur Atta.

It remains to be seen if the Magpies can get a deal done for the Udinese midfielder. The 23-year-old is believed to be rated at around €40 million. It is unclear what the offer from the Magpies is.

Atta was part of Rennes’ famed youth system for seven years before moving to Metz. It is there that he first broke into senior football.

Atta would initially join Udinese on loan in 2024 before making the move permanent last year. And to be fair, he has been an absolute standout in Italy in recent times.

Other clubs are interested in Atta

Newcastle United are not the only club to be linked with Atta lately. Premier League clubs Everton and Fulham might be monitoring the Udinese midfielder’s situation as well.

Italian giants Inter Milan are believed to have an eye on him as well. They will be keen to make a statement after missing out on Marco Palestra to Chelsea.

So, it is not going to be a straightforward move by any stretch of the imagination. And to be honest, there might be a fair bit of risk involved as well.

The pace and physicality of the Premier League are very different compared to the Serie A. Tonali was able to make that adjustment. Would someone like Atta?
