Newcastle United agree deal for Kyle Healy-Matthews
Over the past few weeks, the Magpies have been linked with a handful of gifted youngsters across the continent.
That just goes to show that they want to continue adding fresh talent to their academy, as those players could end up saving the club millions in the future.
According to the aforementioned source, Newcastle United have beaten other Premier League sides to the signing of Healy-Matthews, who is set to join as a first-year scholar imminently.
While his transfer fee hasn’t been disclosed, the 16-year-old will link up with the U-18s for the upcoming season, while it remains to be seen if he trains with the senior squad during pre-season.
Healy-Matthews has been described as the perfect modern-day full-back. While he is originally a right-back, he is capable of playing on both sides and has earned rave reviews for influencing the game at both ends of the pitch.
Youngsters worth their weight in gold
Newcastle United appear to be targeting young players who can explode on the grandest stage, and this isn’t just for the first team.
Their youth set-up is improving with each passing day and Healy-Matthews’ impending arrival is another feather in their cap.
The 16-year-old was held in high regard at West Ham United and played a key role for their U-17 side as they went on to win the Premier League Cup.
In recent seasons, Howe has refrained from throwing academy graduates into the deep end. However, if the Magpies continue to recruit well, a handful of players will knock on his door next season and he’ll be left with a choice to make.
