- Arsenal have not approached Newcastle United for Tino Livramento
- Injury woes have seen dip in interest with £50m price tag deemed too high
- World Cup campaign could rescue move for Livramento
Newcastle United fullback Tino Livramento has been heavily touted for a move away from Tyneside this summer, with Arsenal and Manchester City both interested parties.
There had been some speculation that Arsenal’s pursuit of the England international had ramped up following the close of the Premier League season.
There were even reports that the Gunners had made a formal approach to Newcastle for his services.
But, according to Lee Ryder, that is no longer deemed to be the case, and Newcastle are not said to have received any sort of bid or enquiry about their right-back.
Livramento linked away from Newcastle
Just like the majority of the Magpies’ top names, Livramento has been heavily linked away from the club in the last year.
With Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona for £70m already confirmed, attention has turned to Sandro Tonali and the England international, who are the next two in line for a move away.
But Newcastle are prepared to lose a maximum of two of their marquee players this summer, meaning, in theory, only one of Tonali and Livramento will be allowed to depart.
The initial reports were that Newcastle are more willing to facilitate the sale of Livramento than their Italian maestro. The right-back market is seen as a much easier one to deal in than the centre-midfield market this summer, hence the club’s stance on both players.
But, with the recent rumours of an Arsenal approach rubbished by local journalists, it now seems Livramento has a bigger chance of remaining on Tyneside next season than first thought.
Livramento injury record putting off suitors
Newcastle would need to see some profit on Livramento if they were to sell him this summer and are likely to demand upwards of £50m for his services.
That price tag appeared to be one well justified earlier in the season. But, following a second half of the campaign which was marred by injury issues and some poor performances, the intense interest in the England international seems to have cooled.
Arsenal have faced the consequences of having injured full-backs this season, most notably in the Champions League final defeat against PSG, where centre-back Cristhian Mosquera had to start at right-back due to multiple injuries.
It is unclear whether the Gunners can afford to spend such a large sum on yet another player who may struggle to be available for large parts of the season.
Manchester City are not to be entirely ruled out yet either, despite their interest also dwindling following the injuries, with the Citizens still needing a right-back in the summer market. There is a thought that they will revisit Livramento once the Elliot Anderson saga is concluded.
The World Cup showcase
Despite those concerns, Livramento is at the World Cup this summer with England. This means he has a chance to showcase himself on the biggest stage and could once again drum up some big interest if he has a good tournament.
If Livramento can stay fit over in America, a late move by either Arsenal or City to secure his services wouldn’t be too much of a surprise.
The Magpies may well be hoping Livramento does exactly that too, with the prospect of losing him a much more appetising one than losing Tonali.
Newcastle are thought to be ready to cash in on the 23-year-old if the right offer comes in, with some interesting market opportunities already arising in that area of the pitch this summer.
