Ewen Jaouen already blown away by Newcastle United without kicking a ball for the club
  • Ewen Jaouen to complete Newcastle United move today
  • Goalkeeper to become Eddie Howe’s first summer signing
  • Frenchman blown away by warmth of backroom staff

Ewen Jaouen is currently in Newcastle as he edges closer to becoming the club’s first signing of the summer.

There is a lot of excitement around his impending arrival, and Lee Ryder has provided the inside track on his arrival on Tyneside.

The Magpies are working on multiple deals simultaneously as they also remain on the lookout for an attacker to replace Anthony Gordon.

However, Jaouen is here now and his signing could well be officially confirmed later today if he passes his medical.

Ewen Jaouen taken aback by Newcastle United

According to reliable reports, Jaouen jetted into Newcastle last night and his medical could be happening as we write this article.

The Frenchman is set to cost around £24m, which is a sizable fee for a goalkeeper with just one season of senior football under his belt.

As he prepares to be announced as the club’s first signing, Lee Ryder reports that the 20-year-old has already been taken aback by the warmth of the Newcastle United staff.

For a young kid moving outside his home country for the first time in his career, factors such as this could prove to be invaluable in terms of his settling-in period.

The Magpies will get a glimpse of their newest recruit anytime in the coming hours, so it would make sense to keep an eye on the club’s social media channels for an official announcement.

What next for Newcastle United after Jaouen’s arrival?

Nick Pope has been linked with a departure, with Ipswich Town and Leeds United keeping tabs on him.

Aaron Ramsdale has returned to Southampton after his loan spell and John Ruddy has left the club on a free transfer. So even if one accounts for Jaouen’s arrival, the Magpies need another goalkeeper at the very least.

Odysseas Vlachodimos is still at the club but was only signed from Nottingham Forest to circumvent the PSR guidelines, so he is unlikely to be given a chance.

Another goalkeeper could well arrive at St James’ Park, while the need for an attacker or two is also paramount after Anthony Gordon’s departure.

The Magpies have a bunch of issues to address in the summer transfer window, so the impending arrival of Jaouen is just the start.
