  • TalkSport pundits damning in Gordon uncertainty
  • Why Newcastle may not be stubborn with £75m valuation

The news that Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has agreed terms with Bayern Munich has already sparked online conversations among pundits. talkSPORT had their say on the matter earlier today, and the comments were rather damning.

Despite today’s news that personal terms reportedly reached, Newcastle’s valuation is thought to be well above what Bayern are willing to pay for the winger. There have also been questions raised about his suitability for the German giants.

Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy have both had their say on the news. The two weren’t particularly enamoured with the development and discussed how Gordon might not be good enough for such a big move.

Danny Murphy: Gordon Not at Diaz or Olise level

Speaking about Gordon’s possible move, Murphy said, “I’m a little surprised. I mean, I like Anthony Gordon; he’s got great strengths and qualities, but his consistency is a problem.

“When you look at where Bayern Munich are at, I don’t think he threatens the XI. He’s not on Diaz’s level or Olise’s level. They are going to play 60 games, so he’ll get minutes.

“But unless Bayern have a plan and Diaz is off somewhere or Olise is off somewhere, from a footballing perspective, apart from the financial gain, he’s going to be sitting on the bench.

Simon Jordan: Newcastle Can’t Catch a Break

Jordan also commented on the Gordon news and appeared rather confused at the way the negotiations were playing out.

Jordan said, “It’s a very arse-about-face way of doing things, because normally, if the player is happy to go to Bayern Munich, you agree on fees between the clubs before you allow the player to speak to Bayern Munich.

Newcastle has been aware of Gordon’s desire to explore his options for some time now, and very public talks between representatives have been happening.

The Magpies are likely adopting this structure for a deal to prevent a situation like that of Alexander Isak’s repeating itself.

Gordon to Bayern seems inevitable

Whilst Anthony Gordon’s move to Bayern continues to raise some eyebrows, it feels almost a certainty at this stage.

Gordon is said to want his future sorted before the World Cup comes along, something which the Magpies will also be hoping for given the busy summer ahead.

The valuation of around £75m will probably have to come down for a deal to be struck. Newcastle probably won’t put up too much of a fight if they can get somewhere close to that fee, though, especially given the issues their stubbornness caused last summer.
