Newcastle United fans will love Fabrizio Romano’s latest Sandro Tonali update
  • Fabrizio Romano says Manchester United won’t pursue Sandro Tonali
  • Midfielder wanted by many clubs including Arsenal and Manchester City
  • Tonali now primed to remain at Newcastle United

Sandro Tonali’s long-term future has emerged as a big talking point at Newcastle United during the summer transfer window.

While the Italian continues to be linked with some of the biggest clubs in the world, Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on his future will be music to the ears of the Geordie faithful.

Manchester United and Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Tonali, with the Red Devils, in particular, in need of a player of his qualities to add more quality to their pre-existing midfield options.

However, it appears as if they will not be making a move for him this summer.

Manchester United feel Sandro Tonali is too expensive

Newcastle United have slapped a £100m price tag on Tonali to warn off potential suitors.

In fact, the Magpies are even willing to make Tonali a part of their leadership group at the club to keep him at St James’ Park for the long haul.

Manchester United’s interest is well-documented, with Michael Carrick’s side also chasing a move for Newcastle’s Lewis Hall.

Romano, however, believes the Red Devils won’t launch a move for Tonali as they think his £100m price tag is excessive.

“Manchester United are not going for Sandro Tonali at this stage,” said Romano on his YouTube channel.

“The intention of Manchester United is not to proceed.

“Manchester United has been interested in Tonali for some time, and he’s been on Manchester United’s shortlist, but now they believe that the player is too expensive.”

Big boost for Newcastle United

The likes of Kieran Trippier, Jamal Lascelles and John Ruddy have left the club, while other long-serving players such as Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock could also depart this summer.

Tonali’s value – not just as a player but also as a personality in the dressing room – will be key for Eddie Howe next season.

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Arthur Atta, with the young midfielder earning rave reviews for his performances in Serie A.

If he joins the club, Howe would boast one of the most efficient midfield trios in the Premier League, which would allow them to improve on their 12th-place finish from the 2025-26 season.

Ultimately, Tonali’s leaving this summer should be a non-starter for the Newcastle United hierarchy.
