Victor Munoz exit route emerges even before signing for Newcastle United
  • Victor Munoz is close to signing for Newcastle United
  • Real Madrid insert buyback clause in Magpies deal
  • Attacker part of Spain squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Newcastle United have chased a handful of attackers this summer, but it appears as if they have nailed down Victor Munoz as their primary target to replace Anthony Gordon.

The England international’s departure to Barcelona has left a massive void in the Magpies’ attack.

Newcastle United are close to completing a deal for Munoz, who is part of Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad.

And now, reports from Spain suggest Real Madrid have had their say on the transfer, with the La Liga giants inserting a buyback clause in the deal.

Real Madrid insert buyback clause in Victor Munoz deal

Munoz made a massive impression in Spain last season with his exploits for Osasuna, having joined the club from Real Madrid in the summer of 2025.

Los Blancos had a buyback clause and a sell-on clause when they sold the youngster to Osasuna, which emerged as a potential stumbling block for the Magpies when they entered talks with the La Liga outfit.

However, those hurdles were cleared, with a fee believed to be in the region of £35 million agreed after Real Madrid opted not to exercise their buy-back clause.

However, AS report that the record La Liga champions have managed to retain their buy-back clause for Munoz in a three-way deal with Osasuna and Newcastle United.

The clause will be in place for one season, meaning Real Madrid can trigger their option to buy Munoz back for a fee that remains unspecified. Additionally, they also have first refusal on the player and are set to receive a fee from his sale to Osasuna, making this a profitable deal for them.

The report also states that Barcelona were interested in Munoz, which is why Real Madrid have moved quickly to secure his future as they believe in him to develop into a key player.

Munoz the perfect fit for Newcastle United

Spain play later today and Newcastle United fans across the world will keep an eye on Munoz, although he is expected to start on the bench.

However, his devastating pace and ability to take players on could be lethal against tired legs, so don’t be surprised to see him make an impact as a super-sub.

Munoz is capable of playing out wide or as a centre forward, making him the ideal replacement for Gordon from a stylistic standpoint.

All in all, this looks like a good deal for Newcastle United, but strangely, if Munoz produces the goods at St James’ Park, he could be on his way out of the club next summer as Real Madrid clearly hold him in high regard.
